BACKGROUND: The county was established in 1925, are area formerly having been a part of St. Lucie County. The first settlement dates back to the early 1880’s.
LOCATION:  70 miles south of Kennedy Space Center and 135 miles north of Miami
ELEVATION: 14.3 feet above sea level in the center of the city.
SIZE: Indian River County incorporates 511 square miles, with 12 square miles within the city limits of Vero Beach.
BEACHES: There are 23 miles of beautiful Atlantic beaches with 22 beach parks with access to the ocean or lagoon.

St. Lucie County Facts and Statistics
BACKGROUND: Ft. Pierce was incorporated in 1901 although its history began in 1837 during the Seminole Indian War. Port St. Lucie was incorporated in 1961.
LOCATION: Approximately two thirds of the way down the Atlantic Coast of Florida; about 120 miles north of Miami and 225 miles south of Jacksonville.
SIZE: St. Lucie County’s 572 square miles contain three municipalities and vast areas of unincorporated territory. The Two major cities are Ft. Pierce to the north and Port St. Lucie to the south. To the west of Port St. Lucie is a city within a city, St. Lucie West.
BEACHES: 21 miles of beautiful Atlantic beaches with 34 beach parks with access to the ocean or lagoon.
