VBMA Summer Art Classes


Summer 2022 class registration is now open at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

Spend the summer learning a new art form or period in art history or exploring movement in the Laura and Bill Buck Atrium.


MOVEMENT

QIGONG

Qigong is an 8,000 year old movement program that exercises internal organs. With over 9,000 variations, it is the parent form for Tai Chi, Kung Fun, acupuncture, acupressure, and Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping). Qigong is known as the Longevity Exercise as the movements have been known to extend healthy lives. No special equipment required.

ART HISTORY/ART APPRECIATION

THE ART OF SURPRISE

Christopher Fasolino

There are always more surprises to discover in art history! From the mysteries of the Middle Ages to the geniuses of the Renaissance to the treasures of Chinese silk, this course focuses on works of art that feature plot twists and unexpected flourishes. You need not have taken the first Art of Surprise class to enjoy this NEW course.

FROM MOUNT FUJI TO GIVERNY: JAPANESE ART HISTORY AND EUROPEAN IMPRESSIONISM

Explore the art history of Japan and the inspirational role that Japanese art played for Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh! From the flamboyant castles of the shoguns to quiet forest cottages, from folding screens with paintings of bamboo and dancing cranes to colorful woodblock prints, there is so much to discover, as the Impressionists knew.

PASTELS

A MORNING WITH PASTELS

Sherry Haaland

Come explore the possibilities of this medium with it’s wonderfully rich velvety texture. Have fun exploring and advancing with pastels. Pastel painting encompasses line, texture, overlaying of color while weaving back and forth to bring your painting to life. Come prepared to have fun painting on your fiRst day. Materials needed: Haaland morning pastel materials

PAINTING

PAINTING STUDIO AND MORE

Christine Thomas

All levels

Join a friendly group of artists who work independently while sharing with each other. The instructor provides suggestions and demonstrations. This studio class is open to these 2-D mediums: acrylics, oils, mixed media, watercolor, and drawing. Students should bring their preferred materials to class.

OIL STUDIO – OLD MASTERS TECHNIQUES

Martha Westphal

All levels

This course will be a study of composition, under painting, color, materials and their uses in oil painting. Learn Fibonacci theories of composition, how to make paint and tube it, also how to make varnish, medium and it’s uses. The primary focus is to learn how to incorporate your style with old master techniques.

LEARNING TO LOVE WATERCOLOR

Judy Burgarella

All levels

From the basics of watercolor to advanced techniques, learn how to unlock your creativity and create a work of art. Techniques, tips and tricks will be covered, along with composition, values, measuring methods, lost edges, making corrections, and basic drawing principles. Demonstrations and personal guidance will be provided each week. Materials needed: Burgarella Learning to Love Watercolor materials

CERAMICS


PLEASE NOTE: A 25-pound bag of clay is included in your class tuition. Registered students may purchase up to two more bags of clay maximum from your instructor during the duration of this course. Only clay provided by the Museum may be used in class or fired in the Museum’s kilns.


WORKING WITH CLAY

Kent Johnson

Open to intermediate students, this class includes both hand building and wheel throwing. Students work on perfecting their techniques. The instructor covers surface decoration, design, and glazing instruction, and will also employ helpful class critiques. Working with Clay material list
